At the Tennessee PGA, we are committed to fostering the next generation of leaders who will guide our Section to new heights. We’re excited to introduce the TNPGA LEAD Program, an exclusive initiative tailored for PGA Professionals poised to steer our organization to new horizons.

The TNPGA LEAD Program is a distinguished cohort comprising emerging leaders deeply committed to advancing golf and leaving a positive imprint on their communities. Each member has undergone a rigorous selection and interview process, ensuring that only the most promising individuals are chosen. We proudly announce Tom Durbin (The Ooltewah Club), Alex Holland (Cherokee Country Club), and Andy Hill (The Golf Club of Tennessee) as the inaugural class of TNPGA LEAD.

Tom Durbin, Head Golf Professional at The Ooletwah Club, said that he has been fortunate to have great leaders help him out, such as Lamar Mills and Jeff Craig. He wants to use this opportunity to be a resource for other professionals who often feel like it’s a lonely job. Tom looks forward to building his knowledge and gaining leadership experience in the section.

Andy Hill, Assistant Professional at The Golf Club of Tennessee, describes leadership as caring for the people around you, taking the time to bring others on the journey with you, and helping others get to where they would like to be in life. He says that “good leaders do not choose to take on that type of role for the recognition and awards. They take on the responsibility of leadership because a job needs to be done the right way and they want to encourage others to do the same.” In Andy’s experience, he feels that leading by example is one of the more effective styles. He is most looking forward to expanding his network and learning from some of the best leaders in the TNPGA Section. He explains that there are only positive outcomes to getting more involved in your PGA Section. Andy looks forward to making an impact on the game of golf as well as expanding his knowledge of the golf industry. He is excited to serve others alongside some of the most influential golf professionals in the Tennessee Section and across the country.

Alex Holland, Assistant Golf Professional at Cherokee Country Club, hopes to further develop his abilities as a leader through the TNPGA Lead program. He is excited to gain insight into his strengths and weaknesses, which will contribute to his overall professional development. To him, leadership means “setting a positive example by embodying the values of integrity, respect, and empathy”. Alex is most looking forward to collaborating with fellow industry professionals. He said that he looks forward to being more actively involved in the Tennessee section and aims to make a positive impact on our members.

Through a blend of mentorship, structured education, and immersive experiences, TNPGA LEAD empowers participants to hone their leadership acumen, embrace innovation, and embody the core values of integrity, sportsmanship, and service. This program is designed not only to nurture the next generation of PGA professionals but also to ensure the sustainability and vitality of the game itself.

By investing in the personal and professional growth of our members, TNPGA LEAD aims to forge a vibrant future for golf in Tennessee. Through these efforts, we aim to ensure a vibrant, sustainable future for the game while fostering personal and professional growth for its members.
