(Murfreesboro, TN) – The field of 96 golfers saw close to perfect weather conditions the past two days at the 10th Players Championship. The first round proved to be tough as it was a tightly contested contest in both our overall and senior overall divisions going into the final round. Amateur Lucas Armstrong was able to get hot down the stretch to close out the win at Stones River Country Club.
Armstrong entered the final round in second to last grouping, just one shot off the lead at 1-under par. Armstrong made the turn at 3-under par overall, but still sat two shots off the leader Loren Personett, PGA. On the back nine, Armstrong would catch fire carding three straight birdies on holes 14 through 16 to move to 6-under par overall. Down the stretch Armstrong would go on to par both of his remaining holes to claim the Players Championship.
Bill Breen, PGA of Nashville, TN was able to capture the Senior division title after shooting rounds of 68/71 3-under par overall. Amateur Ray Morton finished solo second at 1-under par overall.
We’d like to give a special thank you to our sponsors, Winston Collection and Walk18. Without their support this event wouldn’t be possible. In addition, we’d like to thank the entire staff at Stones River Country Club for being tremendous hosts and keeping the course in pristine condition throughout tournament play.
