CROSSVILLE, Tenn. – With great golfing weather in Crossville the past few days The City of Crossville Team Championship provided an enjoyable two rounds of golf on a well-manicured Lake Tansi Golf Course. Lake Tansi Golf Course stayed true to its reputation of being a player-friendly track while still providing a challenge to all levels of play. The petite and undulated greens were an appropriate depiction of the challenge the players faced ahead.
The competition for this year’s team championship was intense, to say the least. With a very impressive score of -25 under par, the teams of Casey Flenniken/Alex Cox/Rick Mays/Bob Rice and Mark Houser/Bryan Rodgers/Brandon Rodgers/Ron Waters were named Co-Champions.
Casey Flenniken, PGA closed out first place in the Regular Professional contest with a 131 (-13) finish. His first round of 67 and a second-round score of 64 helped catapult him to the victory over Jake Reeves, PGA who finished at a total of 133 (-11). In the Senior Professional Division Jared Melson, PGA was victorious after firing a smooth 70, 69 for a total of 139 (-5) to edge out Chris Dibble, PGA by one stroke who placed second in the division. Crossville’s own Hunter Stoneman (a) won the regular amateur contest by one stroke with a 139 (-5) finish. He beat second-place finishers Matt Cooper and Lee Maxwell who shot 140 (-4) by one stroke. In the Senior Amateur contest, James McCord proved triumphant with a finishing score of 137 (-7). He ran away with the trophy by beating second-place finisher Steve Golliher -2 (142) by five strokes.
The Tennessee PGA would like to send a special thank you to the staff at Lake Tansi Golf Course for being wonderful hosts. Head Professional Gavin Darbyshire, PGA, and Superintendent Todd Matthews were a pleasure to work with. Without their help and cooperation, the City of Crossville Team Championship would not be as tremendous as it is today. The City of Crossville continues its title sponsorship of this fabulous event. The City is a platinum level sponsor with the Tennessee PGA and helps grow the game that we all love. Crossville is the Golf Capital of Tennessee. We would also like to thank Lake Tansi Village for their continued support of the event. The monetary contributions from both allowed the 96 player field to play for a total purse of $15,575.
