(Knoxville, TN) – The next tournament on the TNPGA schedule takes us to Knoxville, Tennessee for the National Car Rental Tennessee Assistant PGA Championship July 31st – August 1st at Holston Hills Country Club. Originally called the Apprentice Championship, the tournament dates back to 1971. There will be 39 Assistants battling for the Harold Eller Trophy, with the top two advancing on to the 47th PGA Assistant Championship held November 16-19, 2023 at PGA Golf Club, Port St. Lucie, FL.

QUALIFYING SPOTS: 3 spots for the 2023 National Car Rental Assistant PGA Professional Championship – NCR Assistant Professional Championship Eligibility – Only A-8 and B-8 classifications are eligible to qualify for the National Assistant Professional Championship. B-8s must have successfully completed and passed Level 1 and matriculated into Level 2 of the PGA PGM program to be eligible. This change was implemented by the National PGA Tournament Committee.

ROLEX ASSISTANT PLAYER OF THE YEAR STANDINGS
Through six events Tre Mullins (Knoxville, TN) has dominated the Rolex Assistant Player of the Year points race. Mullins holds the top spot with two first place finishes among Assistant Professionals this year. Mullins will look to continue his hot streak in Knoxville. Brett Wolfe (Murfreesboro, TN) sits in the second spot after two second place finishes this season in Pro-Am events. The National Car Rental Tennessee Assistant PGA Championship is a Level I event where the top-20 finishers will be awarded points ranging from 300 points to first and 12 points to twentieth. With Assistant Professionals vying for a spot on the Assistant Cup Matches Team here is a look at the current top-10 heading into this week’s Championship.

NOTES ON THE LIST OF COMPETITORS:
Defending champion Chase Harris (Memphis, TN) who won last year’s event at Memphis Country Club has since gained membership and will not be in the Assistant field opening the door for a new champion Mike Vance (Jackson, TN) has only competed in four events this season, but has two wins among assistants in those starts. Among the field of 39, only 18 will be eligible to qualify for the 2023 National Car Rental Assistant PGA Professional Championship. Dylan Jones (Saltville, VA) has built a strong resume throughout the year putting together three top five performances this year. Cody King (Crossville, TN) will look to build on his top 10 finish at this event last season. King has two second place finishes this year. Past Champions Paul Apyan and Lee Whitehead will also be in the field this year.
Action gets underway at 10:20 A.M. ET with a single tee starting off No. 1 tee for round one and two. Round one pairings were based on current Rolex Assistant Player of the Year points and round two pairings will be based on score. A trophy presentation by the clubhouse will follow the final round of play.
